BAIC INVESTS RMB 100 BILLION IN NEW VEHICLE DEVELOPMENT, DEMONSTRATING STRATEGIC AMBITION IN NEW ENERGY AND INTELLIGENT TECHNOLOGY

According to BAIC’s latest research and development roadmap, the company plans to invest over RMB 100 billion in research and development by 2030, positioning its core technologies among the industry leaders. Through its vehicle manufacturing philosophy of “Technology-Empowered Quality Democracy”, BAIC aims to achieve technological leadership in the automotive sector. These research and development investments will primarily focus on seven key areas: intelligent driving, smart cockpit systems, electronic control units, electric drive systems, hybrid technology, battery technology, and off-road vehicle technologies.

BAIC has already conducted extensive research in electronic control, electric drive systems, hybrid technology, and battery solutions, resulting in numerous proprietary core technologies. Over the past four years, BAIC’s research and development investment has climbed steadily, nearly doubling from RNB 7.54 billion in 2021 to RMB 13.21 billion in 2024. The research and development investment ratio has also increased significantly from 6.2% to 11.7%. The scale of investment and senior management’s commitment clearly demonstrate BAIC’s dedication to technological innovation.
BAlC has filed approximately 35,000 patent applications

To date, BAIC has filed approximately 35,000 patent applications,
positioning itself as an industry leader in intellectual property.
The company’s core technologies in battery management system (EX3),
hydrogen energy, and other key areas have earned six First-Class Science
and Technology Progress Awards from the China Automotive Industry.

BAIC operates world-class testing facilities for battery management system (EX3) and connected vehicle technology, with its testing and prototyping resources ranking among the best in the industry. The company also leads the development of industry technical standards. Following its “13357” technology roadmap, BAIC adheres to the principle of “Independent Innovation with Open Collaboration” to achieve three strategic milestones: completing technology iteration and upgrades by 2025, achieving breakthroughs in priority sectors by 2028, and establishing world-class leadership in core technologies by 2030.
Simultaneously, BAIC is intensifying research and development efforts across
seven critical domains: intelligent driving, smart cockpit systems, electronic
control units, electric drive systems, hybrid technology, battery technology,
and off-road vehicle technologies. By overcoming price constraints and technical
barriers, BAIC aims to provide consumers with best-in-class products and services
that deliver exceptional value for money.
Smarter, Greener, And Safer

Mr. Wang Lei, Director of BAIC Research Institute, shared his vision of “quality for all” from three perspectives: “smarter, greener, and safer”, explaining how BAIC meets customers’ most authentic needs through resilient technology. “Smarter” means making travel worry-free, comfortable, and enjoyable. “Greener” refers to using technology to continuously enhance new energy vehicles’ characteristics, enabling them to “consume less while going further and faster”. “Safer” represents the fundamental principle of automobile manufacturing. As Mr. Wang states, “Safety is the ultimate luxury”.

BAIC products are built to crash safety standards exceeding industry norms. Their new energy vehicles feature steel-aluminum hybrid bodies that improve energy absorption efficiency by 35% during collisions. The all-new BJ40’s “integrated cage body with embedded roll bar” technology is unique worldwide. The ARCFOX’s body torsional rigidity exceeds 60,000 Nm, earning it the nickname “road tank”, while the ARCFOX battery maintains a zero spontaneous combustion record since its launch. Investing in these unseen aspects may not be immediately noticeable, but this demonstrates BAIC’s long-term commitment and practical approach to manufacturing, giving the company confidence in guaranteeing quality.
